The Parque Natural da Arrábida (Arrábida Natural Park) has landscape and ecological interest, formed by the mountain, covered by Mediterranean vegetation, and by the near sea area. There one can find wildlife of national importance, as well as values of cultural and historical interest. It is adjacent to the Lagoa de Albufeira (The Albufeira Lagoon), a sedimentary system, part of the National Ecological Reserve, of great interest to the birdlife.

The Arrábida and Lagoa de Albufeira expedition was conceived as an alternative approach by the Grupo do Risco. Instead of focusing on an intensive period in a site, it has a broader time frame, with multiple short-term journeys.
